This collection contains hearing and organizational records. Hearing materials include correspondence, public hearing notices, hearing transcripts, news releases, newspaper clippings, newsletters, maps and survey material. INRC reports cover a variety of topics including geological surveys of floodplains and rivers, reports of channel changes, and the formation of lakes in Iowa. Maps and survey information include maps of floodplains, river basins, and possible well sites while the included legislation consists of bills and cases related to dam construction, drilling, and conservations of natural resources in Iowa. Organizational materials include meeting minutes and agendas dealing with the hearings and appeals cases, but which also include several operations and summary reports on different operating facilities including sewage, dams, and power plants.

The Iowa Natural Resources Council (INRC) was created in 1949 by Iowa's General Assembly for the control of water and the protection of the surface and underground water resources of the state. In 1957 and 1963, the Council's duties were expanded to include oversight of all floodplain activities and controlling the conservation of oil and gas. The Council consisted of nine members who were appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate and who had overlapping six-year terms....
